- Leonard DeHoog, age 83, of Everson, went home to his Lord and Savior Tuesday, March 15, 2011. He was born May 8, 1927 in Rock Township, Minnesota to Abraham and Marie Veleke DeHoog. In 1945, Leonard joined the U.S. Army and served during WWII. On June 25, 1947, Leonard married Adrianne Lucille Eckhoff in Ripon, California. A dairyman at heart, Leonard and his family moved to Whatcom County in 1960; purchased his own dairy farm on the Kneuman Road in Sumas and he and Adrianne farmed there until 1974. He then did carpentry and continued to help other farmers with their field work. For over 50 years, Leonard was a faithful member of Sumas Christian Reformed Church. Farming and fishing were lifelong hobbies. Preceded in death by his son, Leonard John DeHoog in 1966; brother, Albert and sister, Bertha VanTil; Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Adrianne; children Cheri Swietze Vander Meulen, Susan Clark Jones, Ted Eileen DeHoog and Pam Craig Hanks; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; brothers, Gerrit, Marvin, Jasper, Abraham, Abel and Jake; sisters, Chris Fylstra, Cornelia Van Gorkum, Marie Brock, Sebila Boerighter, Marge Koetsier and Adrianne Van Reisen. Graveside services will be conducted Monday, March 21, 11:15 am at Sumas Cemetery followed by a 12:00 noon memorial service at Sumas Christian Reformed Church, 700 Sumas Ave., Sumas.
